Tis the Season!
This the season to care for your wooden instruments!
With the cold upon us, wooden wind and string instruments can be affected by this weather!
Here are a few tips:
If your instrument has been in a cold vehicle or in the cold for whatever reason, before playing, let your instrument come to room temperature. For wind instruments, touch the body to ensure it has warmed up before blowing warm air inside. This can help you avoid developing cracks.
For string instruments with pegs, know it’s normal for the pegs to contract and expand. If they contract, you may have difficulty tuning or keeping your instrument tuned. Peg dope will help with slippy pegs!
And finally, humidifiers placed inside your case will help keep your wooden instruments from becoming too dry.
Let us know what questions you have about caring for your fragile instruments during winter!
