Learn together, laugh together, grow together.
Have you always wanted to play an instrument and be part of a band, but not been given that chance? You’re not alone. We’re here for you and the good news is, it’s never too late to start. Our Adult Beginning Band program makes getting started simple, affordable, and fun! If you’ve ever thought, “I wish I had learned to play,” this is your opportunity. You can do this and we’d be honored to help you make your first note.
Learning a wind or percussion instrument is more than picking up a new hobby, it’s a full-body, full-mind experience. Playing music strengthens memory, focus, and problem-solving skills. Physically, it builds coordination, breath control, posture, and fine motor skills. Just as importantly, making music has a powerful impact on overall well-being. You'll be reducing stress, boosting mood, and creating a sense of accomplishment that carries far beyond the rehearsal room. Most of all you'll be MAKING MUSIC with your friends!
Your tuition includes a 90 minute band class once a week, a top end, brand name student instrument rental, your music books, a music stand, and all the accessories you need to get started. We have no hidden fees or charges and there's nothing more to buy.

Classes are held on Thursday evenings from 7-8:30pm at DeLa Salle Collegiate HS, 14600 Common Rd. Warren, MI. You won’t be doing this alone. You’ll be learning alongside other adults who are just getting started, sharing the same first notes, the same challenges, and the same victories. Along the way, you’ll make connections, build friendships, and experience something special, BEING PART OF A BAND.
Meet your Band Director!
After a rewarding 30-year career teaching instrumental music at all levels, MJ York retired from the school classroom but not from teaching music. Known for being fun and approachable while setting the bar high, MJ creates a rehearsal environment which balances excellence with encouragement and fosters a strong sense of family among her students. This atmosphere makes it possible for musicians to feel supported, challenged, and inspired to grow. Today, MJ continues to share her passion for music by performing in several ensembles and teaching adult students how to play, guiding them with enthusiasm, and a supportive spirit that allows all students to enjoy their musical journey.
