Day TWO in DC: Donovan and Robert spent the day meeting with NAMM delegates from all across the United States. We discussed the needs of students and how music is a key element of a well rounded education. Music prepares students for the 21st century workforce, and no one knows this more than representative Clyburn. We are grateful for the time he spent with us.

This week we’re supplying a behind the scenes look at what Central Music folks do to support music in our schools. Robert and Donovan are currently in Washington DC. Follow along and see what they’re up to!
DAY ONE:
Today, Donovan and I had the incredible honor of visiting Eastern High School in Washington, D.C. as part of the NAMM Foundation delegation.
We were treated to performances by a budding school band and an inspiring choir that filled the room with energy and passion. These students are just beginning their musical journey—and what a strong start! After the performances, we sat down with the students to talk about our own paths in music and the wide range of opportunities that exist in the industry today. Their curiosity and enthusiasm were contagious. To support the growth of their music program, the @NAMMFoundation proudly donated $10,000 to Eastern High. We’re excited to see how this investment will help these young musicians thrive.

In this Awkward Afternoons, Josh and Robert talk the importance of scales. Scales prepare you for EVERYTHING--Playing in different keys, playing different songs, sight-reading. If you find practicing scales to be boring, there are many tools, like play-along-tracks, that can make doing the work more like having fun. Also, are there really 1001 different ways to play your scales? #iplayhere
