Play It Forward Initiative 2021!

PLAY IT FORWARD

A&G Central Music is introducing a new Play It Forward initiative for the month of May!

This last year has been really hard on many of us, not the least of which are students trying to learn to play an instrument.

We'd like to provide you with tips on how to practice, new techniques, and maybe some music history---all topics we hope are useful to you or your student as they move forward on their musical journey.

In exchange for this content we’d like to ask that, if you are able, you please make a donation to our Play It Forward program.

A&G Central Music is going to match all donations up to $5,000. We'll use your donations to make instruments available to students who are currently unable to get an instrument due to financial difficulties caused by the pandemic. We're also going to build packages for area schools that will contain the expendable items band directors need to keep their classroom running.

If you find the content we share useful, and you're able to, please make a donation. If you cannot make a monetary donation, please consider sharing our content and this page with your friends and family or give some words of encouragement to a young musician.

We look forward to supporting the musical community who has stuck by us and supported our business during this challenging and unprecedented year .

Thank you so much!

Composer Series: Sergei Prokofiev

Sergei Prokofiev
April 23rd 1891 - March 5th 1953

Prokofiev was a Russian Soviet composer, pianist and conductor. He began composing at the age of five.

He is regarded as one of the major composers of the 20th century.

Prokofiev's first love was opera. His most successful was the satirical 'The Love for Three Oranges.'

Sergei was an avid chess player.

In 'Peter and the Wolf' Prokofiev introduced countless children to the orchestra by using melodic themes and the sound of different instruments to represent characters.

Our favorites:
Romeo and Juliet, Op. 64, ballet in four acts
Peter and the Wolf, Op. 67
Symphony No. 1 in D major, Op. 25
Piano Concerto No. 3
